Ovulation Tests Instructions For Use and Interpretation
There are various types of Ovulation Test Kits available. The most common types available are the test strips, the cassette test and the mid stream test.
The Instructions for use for each test type varies slightly, with the mid stream being the most convenient test type to use. The interpretation of the test results, is largely the same.
For the Ovulation Test Strip, the Test Procedure is as follows:-
- Immerse the strip vertically into the urine sample with the arrow end pointing towards the urine, at least 10 seconds. Do not immerse past the ‘Max’ Line.
- Take the strip out and lay the strip flat on a clean, dry surface.
- Wait for coloured bands to appear.
- Read the results in 3 – 5 minutes.
- Do not interpret results after 5 minutes.
Ovulation Test Strip Interpretation of Results
Negative: Only one line appears in the control region (C) or both of the lines in the control region and the test region appear, but the test line (T) present is lighter than that of the control line (C). This indicates that no LH Hormone surge has been detected and you should continue daily testing.
Positive: Two distinct lines appear; one is in the test region (T), and the other in the control region (C). The test line (T) must be as dark as or darker than the control line (C). This indicates that you will probably ovulate in the next 12-24 hours. And if you want to get pregnant, the best time to have intercourse is after 12 hours but before 24 hours.
Invalid:
If there is no coloured line visible both in the test region (T) and control region(C), or there is a coloured line in the test region (T), but no line in control region (C).
For the Ovulation Cassette Test, the Test Procedure is as follows:-
- Remove the test stick from the foil pouch
- Remove the cap to expose the absorbent tip
- Hold the stick by the thumb grip with the exposed absorbent tip pointing downward.
- Urinate on the absorbent tip (sample well) until it is thoroughly wet.
- Lay the test stick down on a flat surface with the windows facing top.
- Read the result within 10 minutes.
Ovulation Cassette Test Interpretation of Results
Negative: Only one line appears in the control region (C) or both of the lines in the control region and the test region appear, but the test line (T) present is lighter than that of the control line (C). For the Ovulation Mid Stream Test, the Test Procedure is as follows:-
- Remove the cassette test device from the foil wrapper by tearing along the slice on the edge.
- Using the urine dropper, withdraw the urine sample from the specimen cup and slowly dispense 3-5 drops into the circular sample well, being careful not to overfill
- Lay the cassette test on a flat surface with the windows on top
- Read the test results within five minutes.
- Do not interpret the results after more than 5 minutes.
- Each test is for single use only.
Ovulation Mid Stream Test Interpretation of Results
- Negative: Only one line appears in the control region (C) or both of the lines in the control region and the test region appear, but the test line (T) present is lighter than that of the control line (C). This indicates that no LH Hormone surge has been detected and you should continue daily testing .
- Positive: Two distinct lines appear, one is in the test region (T), and the other in the control region (C). The test line (T) must be as dark as or darker than the control line (C). This indicates that you will probably ovulate in the next 12-24 hours. And if you want to get pregnant, the best time to have intercourse is after 12 hours but before 24
